Jinro Soju

In A Juice Box Carton?

September 25th, 2008

This is very wrong.  For those that have never heard of Soju, it is Korea’s own primary liquor.  Tasting similar to vodka, Soju is traditionally made from rice and contains between 18 to 20 percent alcohol by volume.  But some major brands make it with barley, wheat, potato, sweet potatoes, or tapioca and are normally sold in a glass bottle.  The reason I say it’s so wrong is that this particular Soju product is packaged in a small carton, just like the juices found in our stores in the USA!  I found this one sold in a local 7-Eleven store in Seoul last year while I was there.  Yes, you can actually poke a little straw into it and sip while you’re walking out of the store!  It’s no wonder why so many people are alcoholics over there.
