Wine Pick of the Month: Covey Run, 2004 Cabernet Sauvignon

Covey Run, 2004 Cabernet SauvignonNot just your normal Cab.  It’s the Winemaker’s Collection by Kerry Norton from Columbia Valley.  The label reads, “Exceptional winemaking and careful oak aging are the hallmark of Covey Run’s Winemaker’s Collection wines.  Rich and complex, our Winemaker’s Collection Cabernet Sauvignon shows flavors of cassis, berries, herbs and a hint of spice.”

I paired this wine with an oven-broiled New York pepper steak and some green vegetables over garlic mashed potatoes.  I was very amazed!  Every sip of this wine was a great moment in time cherished with the juicy, medium-pink steak.  What was in the steak?  Top and bottom layered full of seasoning and spice: salt, pepper (lots of it), garlic powder (a good amount), parsley flakes, and some red crushed peppers.  Heat at about 420 degrees for about 25 minutes.  Use your favorite steak sauce at mealtime.  I used A1.

This wine definitely compliments the hearty and meaty palate with it’s rich flavors that immediately tingles your jaws with happiness.  And with it’s surprisingly low cost of about $9-$10 this is sure hard to beat.  So, next time you’re going to a party or planning that romantic dinner, keep this one in mind.  It’s a keeper!
